As our business development customer base grew, we quickly identified that in many cases successful tendering in particular across the mining, oil and gas sectors required companies to have substantial and sometimes complex local and indigenous participation and engagement programs as a prerequisite. The days when a simple percentage of workforce was deemed sufficient are gone and large companies quite rightly expect a genuine commitment to skills transfer at both indigenous employee and indigenous business levels.

Our work in business development in particular in assisting companies (client side) with preparation of works scopes, request for tender documents and tender assessment tools led to an understanding that indigenous participation and engagement required more than simple targeted employment numbers or indigenous percentage of work force. Modern programs are far more complex and require real understanding of the issues and a genuine commitment to development of both indigenous team members and businesses. We found that many businesses both large and small had little or no exposure to indigenous engagement and most had no clue how or where to start.

Through necessity of our clients and our long association with businesses in the Pilbara, Goldfields and far north regions, SIP has become a specialist in development of indigenous participation and engagement programs, training and capacity development services, and facilitation of joint ventures between indigenous and non-indigenous business.
